Skeena River, river in western British Columbia, rises in the Skeena Mountains in the northern part of the province and flows generally southwestward, receiving its two major tributaries, the Babine and Bulkley rivers, before emptying into Chatham Sound (an arm of the Pacific Ocean), south of Prince Rupert, after a course of about miles ( km). There’s a regularly scheduled airline service to Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Smithers from southern British Columbia. For information on passenger rail service between Smithers and Prince Rupert, contact Via Rail, The following towns are in or near the Bulkley and Skeena River Valleys (east to west).
No significant geological hazards are in the Calgary area, although slope failures are not uncommon on steep slopes, especially along the Bow River valley. Although failures have occurred in nearly all geological settings, the most common setting is in thick lacustrine sediment, especially where saturated permeable beds occur in the succession. One of the most unique journeys in northern British Columbia is the trip down the Skeena River from Hazelton to Prince Rupert. We retrace the journeys of the First Nations and the early explorers as the Skeena River flows km through the Coast Mountains. The beauty and awe inspiring scenery is truly remarkable!
